WE HAVE A BOX TO FILL

Many of the School’s Supplies are Shipped from the USA

A box ready to be packed and shipped

Many of the school’s supplies are not readily available locally, or simply more expensive than the cost to ship them from the USA. Items being shipped there are packed in large cardboard shipping containers; each container holds about eighteen cubic feet of school supplies.

Donated and purchased supplies are collected and stored in Fort Lauderdale. Once enough supplies have been collected to fill a container, the container is packed and prepared for pickup by a Fort Lauderdale-based shipping company. All containers are insured and shipped directly to the school in San Andrés Itzapa. It takes about 30 days for a container to arrive in Guatemala once shipped from Fort Lauderdale.

Getting needed supplies to the school is always a challenge. It was not until April 2019 that the US Postal Service restored mail delivery service from the USA to Guatemala after several years of interrupted service. Shipping to Guatemala is also expensive – the cost to ship one container to the school is $310.00. Because theft and illegal diversion of shipments are always a concern, we only use shippers that insure shipments in their care and control.

Donations equip the school with the necessary tools and supplies to help educate Guatemalan children. With the generous support of volunteers and donors, the school continues its mission to help young students be the best they can be.
