The School works with at-risk first- and second-grade students, providing educational support, books, and daily meals during the most critical early years of learning.
Through tutoring, literacy programs, and nutritional support, the school helps children build stronger educational foundations and remain engaged in school over the long term.

Phyllis Manoogian, an Episcopal deacon, has been involved in outreach and mission work in Guatemala for many years. Through that work, she developed close relationships with families, educators, and community members in San Andrés Itzapa and came to understand the educational challenges facing many young children there.
Those relationships ultimately led to the creation of Niños Creadores de Historia, a school focused on helping children build strong academic foundations during the critical early years of their education. What began as a response to a local need has grown into an ongoing partnership with the community, providing supplemental instruction, books, and daily nutrition to children who need additional support.
Today, Phyllis continues to guide the school while working closely with its Guatemalan teachers and staff. Her approach has remained remarkably simple: listen to the community, identify where help can make a meaningful difference, and give children the educational support they need to build a more promising future.

Children Create History School is supported by a small but deeply committed team of educators, volunteers, and community partners working together to support students and families in San Andrés.

lead Teacher
Sofy has served as lead teacher at Niños Creadores de Historia for five years. With a university degree in education, she brings both professional training and a deep commitment to helping each child develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in school.
Sofy believes reading does far more than teach a child to recognize words. It strengthens the ability to observe, analyze, concentrate, reflect, and communicate. These are skills that support learning throughout life. Her dedication to each individual student is at the heart of the school’s educational program.
