The Joy of Learning Together
In late April, a group of eight members and friends from All Saints Episcopal Church, Fort Lauderdale, traveled to Guatemala for a week-long mission trip centered around partnership, service, faith, and cultural immersion. By every measure, the trip was a tremendous success.
Our group spent time in both Antigua and the community of San Andrés Itzapa, where we visited and worked alongside Children Create History School. For many on the trip, this was their first visit to Guatemala. What they discovered was a country filled with warmth, beauty, resilience, and extraordinary hospitality.
The purpose of the trip was never simply to “help” from a distance. Instead, the experience focused on building relationships, listening, learning, and walking alongside the local community with humility and respect. Throughout the week, our group spent time with students, teachers, families, and community members, gaining a firsthand understanding of both the challenges and hopes present within the community.
There were moments of service, reflection, laughter, and quiet reminders of how deeply connected we are to one another despite differences in language, culture, or geography. One of the highlights of the week was spending time at Children Create History School itself, where participants interacted directly with students. The joy and enthusiasm of the children left a lasting impression on everyone who participated.
Mission trips often change the people who participate as much as the communities they visit. This trip was no exception. We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported the journey through prayers, encouragement, and financial support.
Following the overwhelmingly positive response from those who participated, we are hopeful that this experience will become an ongoing ministry opportunity and that future mission trips to Guatemala will continue to strengthen our partnership with Children Create History School.
